In a new series, we introduce you to some of the bands you really have to hear. And in a cunning (though some might say lazy) innovation that harks back to the ‘Up and Coming’ section from the paper itm?, the bands introduce themselves in their own words.
First up, Edinburgh-based electronic sound-wranglers, Night Noise Team.
Who?
Sean Ormsby-voice, songs, guitar
Fabien Pinardon-bass,voice, songs, sonic bliss
Marco Morelli-guitar, voice
Mike Walker-drums
When?
Originally a studio-based duo (Sean and Fab) NNT released debut album ‘Ronde de Nuit’ in 2008, then recruited Marco and Mike to play these songs live.
The current NNT permutation has been active in and around Leith, Edinburgh since 2008, writing, recording and playing various venues in Edinburgh, Dundee, Glasgow and London. Some highlights have been a London gig at Heavenly Social for Edinburgh club night Limbo’s cd launch and supporting The Godfathers at King Tut’s. Playing Edinburgh’s Meadows festival marquee as stilt walkers wandered past the stage was unmissable too.
First single ‘Menolick’ was released in November 2009 to positive reaction from BBC Radio 1, Lamacq on BBC 6 music and a raft of podcasters.
New single ‘You Won’ (released on PermWhale Recordings, May 2010) has also been supported by Vic Galloway, NME Radio’s ‘Best of Myspace’ and Glasgow Podcart podcasts, Hot Press (Single of the Fortnight), The Scotsman and Scottish bloggers like ‘Aye Tunes’ and ‘Peenko’.
Where?
We’ve just been invited to perform at T in the Park’s ‘T-Break’ stage and King Tut’s Summer Nights Festival in July. A massive 4 man tent with separate doors, like The Beatles in ‘Help’ is being purchased. And miniature frying pans.
Also currently working on the second album which may emerge in Winter 2010/11. We’re taking our time over this one. The songs are stronger. That’s what they all say!
What?
A Franco-Italian, Scots-Irish sonic car-crash. The UN of pop. Some of us do it for the love of pop music, some just for the love of doing soundchecks. Recordings are layered, carefully arranged. Gigs are a Route One rush of melody and guitar.
Why?
A febrile compulsion, maybe a distraction. A cut and shut of the things we need. Resolving an identity crisis by creating a new one. Plus, it feels good.
Night Noise Team’s second single ‘You Won’ is now available on their own PermWhale label (
