Hitting on a totally unique sound these days is something that very few bands are able to achieve. The vast majority of reviews that are written about new releases more often than not include a list of ‘sounds like’ references. However, you will find very few such quotes in a review of Nephu Hazzard’s material. They sound only like… well, Nephu Huzzband, actually.
Jerky guitar and staccato drums combine with rising and falling vocals that vary between shouts and discordant harmony give this single a distinct, quirky feel. ‘Clockwork’ is the second track on the single. Like the majority of Nephu Huzzband’s songs, it follows the same basic formula as mentioned above although on this occasion the pace is moderately slower.
Whilst it may be commendable to cultivate your own distinctive sound, the danger is that some way down the line it could becomes a tad repetitive and even counter-productive. However, judgement is reserved and for the time being you would do well to search out, sit back and listen to the excellent, individual sound of Nephu Huzzband.
