Somehow the clean livin’ “mommy’s apple pie” image of the United States has never washed on this side of the Atlantic. We like our yanks gritty, jail bound and backed with the whisky-laden sound of the pedal steel guitar. Mr Plow, a Leicester based singer, does his best approximation of an Alabama troubadour, but emerges less Hank Williams than Hank Marvin. Surf rock tribute ‘Link Wray’ stays firmly on the beach, more than likely getting sand kicked in its face by the rough kids. Final track ‘Don’t Sell Daddy Any More Whiskey’ is a rather cynical attempt to move the heartstrings but to no avail – it’d take more than a few sips at the water of life to get me to spin this again.
