Perhaps better known as the remix master, Metronomy (aka Joseph Mount) has jazzed up all the trendy music kids – Klaxons, Young Knives and Kate Nash to drop but a few names.
His own music takes the computer geek beats of Hot Chip and the sleaze of Tiga, and sews them into something altogether more experimental. New single ‘Radio Ladio’ juxtaposes a droll monotone delivery with hyperactive background bleeps, while a girl chants ‘R-A-D-I-Oh!’ in the background. The two B-sides are a little more controlled, being entirely instrumental, but still have that agitated electro delivery. The driving force of the music is these dirty robotic beats that snake through each song. And Mount’s remix work means he knows how to give a tune some oomph – getting heads nodding, toes tapping – and perhaps – bottoms wiggling.
