Lo Moon started the evening with some easy listening indie rock which went down with the very vocal crowd quite pleasantly.
The night, however, was most definitely about Metric, who kicked off with ‘Doomscroller’ followed with mostly new material from their recent album ‘Formentera’.
Balancing new music with fan favourites can be an issue when a band has gained a following over a successful career spanning 20 years. However, this was clearly not a problem for Metric who had the fans singing along to their new synthier material in between the typically Glaswegian chants of “Here we fucking go”.
“There is no such thing as a Monday when Metric are playing,” declares vocalist Emily Haines. At 20 songs this was a long set but it was never in danger of dragging on as they progressed from hit to hit with the high energy that fans have come to expect. They have an extensive back catalogue to draw from and timed their set perfectly to keep the excitement levels rising throughout.
Ending the evening with ‘Breathing Underwater’ Emily talked about how grateful she was to be back touring, and left the stage in tears of joy in what was a surprisingly emotional end to a performance from a band who clearly love to be on stage.
