A welcome ray of sunshine graced a Scottish capital deep in mid-winter last Wednesday with the arrival of Mariachi El Bronx, the folk infused incarnation of punks The Bronx, at the Electric Circus for the start of their World Tour.
During a set of shimmering surf rock from Pounded by the Surf (a quartet that includes three members of the headline act) the venue quickly fills, lending a palpable air of expectation to proceedings.
Arriving onstage to a warm welcome, Mariachi El Bronx quickly capitalize on the capital crowd’s enthusiasm. All expected elements of the traditional Mexican music are present in the eight strong line up, most notably some brilliant percussion playing from Jorma Vik and some great patter from charismatic singer Matt Caughthran who was on fine form and obviously having a blast.
After a generous set topped off by a three song encore, everyone exits into a bitterly cold night with a smile on their face and the sunny sound of Mexico via California ringing in their ears. @the_bronx
