This instore album launch gig saw Man of Moon play around seven tracks from the new album, released on that very day. The two-piece featuring band instigator Chris on vocals/guitar/bass/keyboards and able foil (and member of several other combos) Ian on drums/pads sounded very good in the instore environment, to the credit of soundman Duncan. Starting on acoustic and building up to some lounder tracks on bass/keyboards, Chris admitted he was very chuffed to have the new record (‘Machinism’) out in the wild but that the whole process had taken ridiculous amounts of time and effort – such is the lot of DIY musicians!
The tracks sounded great, a progression from previous releases, with opener ‘You And I’ going onto ‘Run and Hide’, the point at which BM thought the gig really started to ignite. Recent single ‘Video’ throbbed out of the building across the wastelands Sauchiehall St pedestrian precinct and drew in some random punters to add to the faithful, and last track ‘Rain’ ended things on a vindicated high. The lyrical themes are not always upbeat but that’s what you get with MoM, and BM for one loves them for it! Big end of year show announcement was made as well and there will be more live dates before that – well worth seeing…
