Unlike her other swirling, romantically indulgent pop songs such as ‘Little Bit’ and more recently ‘Get Some’, Lykke Li has given us something rather devilishly delectable. The new single ‘I Follow Rivers’, taken from her forthcoming album, Wounded Rhymes, encapsulates the love of the hot pursuit.
Sensuous bass and soft electro wrapped up in cathedral-like organs make for a rather gorgeous combination. As the song is about the submission of one to another, the alluring tale of devotion is somewhat predatory; however the subtle ambiguity in Lykke Li’s siren-like voice takes the listener by the hand and makes you give yourself over to it.
There is a mature feel to ‘I Follow Rivers’, as if to follow was actually the best way in which to lead a chase. Layered with a distinctive confidence, this song makes me think that there is a lot of control to this player and her game.
I suggest you listen to this track in the privacy of your own room before you listen to it around the opposite sex. It does make the mind wander otherwise, so you may made need to build up a resistance.
