Lanarkshire five-piece Luma have the kind of swelling guitar sound that naturally lends itself to live performance, and you can’t help feeling that ‘Blue Peter Garden’ fails to do them justice. As it stands it’s a pleasant enough pop-rock tune with hints of an amped-up Teenage Fanclub, but unfortunately it fails to soar in all the right places, and the end result sounds distressingly like so many other guitar bands out there at the moment. You’d be wrong to write Luma off because of it – and the B-sides do hint at an admirable depth of material – but this isn’t the single to propel them to fame and greatness. A solid rock tune, even if it doesn’t quite sweep you off your feet.
