The debut album from Lucy’s Diary is a pleasant enough collection of songs. Whilst it’s far from groundbreaking, it’s a good, fun collection of indie-pop.
What it suffers from, however, is the misfortune to have arrived around the same time as the Best Coast debut, which is similar, only slightly better, and the bane of the independent musician’s life, released on a bigger label with more marketing. which no matter how bitterly unfair, means far more exposure.
However, there’s a lot of promise here on the eleven songs on display, so I sincerely hope that Lucy Joplin and JJ Crash (awesome name for a rock musician) will continue to plough their own furrow.
