Colchester based indie band The Lowriders are a four piece with their aims seemingly set high in the music industry. Having supported The Futureheads, Peter Buck, Pop Will Eat Itself & Dingus Khan, they were recently commissioned to write new songs for the soundrack of ‘I Am Soldier’, a new independent British film. And this EP is the result.
Totalling four tracks (one of which is a remix of the title track) this EP is the work of a truly exciting band. The guitars are crunching and reverb heavy, creating a foreboding atmosphere that it’s easy to imagine would sit well over a low budget army movie. The vocals too are swimming in effects, giving a detached feel that would make a good accompaniment to a barracks assault course montage.
Inspired by the likes of The Who and (perhaps most obviously) Kasabian, The Lowriders’ sound is a mix of energetic (‘Big Moustache’) and more pared back (‘Sound of Guns’) indie rock that packs a punch and mixes old fashioned crunching chords with 21st century use of effects to create a very strong release.
