Good lord, the productivity rate and the enthusiasm of the Lost Map collective continue to astound.
Not content with running a record label from a caravan on Eigg, touring and developing other artists from near and far, Johnny “Pictish Trail” Lynch convened a collection of fellow musicians on the island in spring 2023 to record a completely new project. This is the second track from the forthcoming album, after the lengthy and ponderous initial ‘Astral Difficulties’.
Clocking in at a more modest “only 4’37”” it draws on the many and varied talents of the collective, with Johnny taking the initial vocal but other voices coming in as the thing progresses. There’s a health dose of Krautrock, some pure pop, also Hot Chip-esque proto-techno and a whole lot else besides. It sounds as if they had immense fun making these tracks and you can almost feel the cross-pollination of ideas and playing styles rubbing up against each other to form a new beast.
BM hope to witness the collective in action this autumn and suggest that it may be quite a jolly hoot…
