As a closet fan of Simple Minds I was expecting a departure of sorts from Jim Kerr on this side project. I had read press releases that pointed towards a different direction but in truth this track would not sound out of place on one of the 80s behemoths previous efforts.
It is often the case that when a songwriter from a band releases solo material that it is inferior to their bands work but in this track Jim Kerr has not let his form drop. Full of all the familiar SM guitar hooks and vocals that prove the man is still Alive and Kicking, this is actually an enjoyable listen and should garner more than just this favourable review. B-side ‘Refugee’ is also a welcome surprise and sounds a little more aggressive, hinting that there may be more to Jim Kerr than his band’s legacy.
