‘International Love Affair’ is the title of the single but could also be used to describe the band themselves, hailing as they do from Wales, England, Nigeria and Italy. What this multi-national conglomorate of musicians have produced is a highly danceable track, with dreamy vocals lying neatly on top of the pulsating bass driven instrumentation. It is a polished and accomplished effort, backed by ‘Golden Phone’, a song which neatly highlights the vocalists ability to harmonise before it goes into an incredibly weird direction when it breaks down into some sort of hip-hop number complete with rapped half-rhymes and samples. Still, it’s only a b-side eh? On the strength of the a-side however, Laurel Collective have built a steady base from which to launch themselves.
