British Hip Hop is improving all the time, and the genre is seeing exponential growth with new top-class artists appearing often. But, it is not every day that a track like JDM’ by Swindon-based Kingdumb comes along.
It is a post-genre release with a style that is not hugely familiar in modern times. Furthermore, Kingdumb takes a hip hop foundation, and he adapts it into something unique to himself. Moreover, his rapping method is unparalleled, and he gets his message across well, with his wordplay proving interesting. Nevertheless, although he does head into a distinguished area, he does find influence from the likes of Dizzee Rascal and other greats who have taken the scene by storm over the last few years.
Musically, the entire track is fresh off the mark. The rhythm is not over-complicated, but it keeps the energy flowing. Also, the beat is a foot-tapper, and it is easy to get lost in its swing. It is most likely why Kingdumb keeps it at the forefront of the mix, especially towards the latter, where it becomes the only component audible.
DJ’ing since 13, Kingdumb has perfected his skill and it not a surprise to discover that he has racked up more than 200,000 streams on Spotify. But is this the track to propel him to the top? Potentially because it is compelling, and it opens up the eyes. Also, it has just about something for everybody, given its catchy and melodic hooks. Either way, 2021 is going to be very kind to the artist.
