Self-released album This Lif’ by Kim Lowings and the Greenwood is a promising debut filled with traditional and contemporary folk songs filled with rebellion and charm.
Hailing from Stourbridge in the West Midlands, the band’s clever blend of traditional contemporary folk songs works well together bringing an album that is filled with 12 enjoyable tracks that are quite reminiscent of Nick Drake but still a sound all of their own.
For me, the title track ‘This Life’ is the stand out song on the album. A song about making sure you make an impact: “My friend if there’s one thing you do with this life, don’t let it pass you by”.
And Kim Lowings and certainly does. This album is proof, if it was need, that she has a concrete future in the folk scene.
