‘Walking Tall’ is the first song to emerge from the darkness of the Arches tunnel. The marauding masses instantly break out in a tribal worship and surrender to the spine whipping sub base and drums. It is a place where we all forgot ourselves.
Kele looks like he might have been hitting the bottle before the stage which I love, because he has completely let go. “The Scots are sexy. I said that earlier today, didn’t I!”, he turns to look at the keyboardist, “Yeah I did say that. This next song is about being built for greatness….”. T-E-N-D-E-R-O-N-I. The screams that rage from the back of the room gives everyone chills. Then it was the drums…
I’m launched to the front where Kele comes to kiss the crowd that adores him. I reach out my hand as far as I can into oblivion where it is clasped for one second by Kele himself. I just about come in my lace undies. ‘On The Lam’ twists everyone into a love drunk induced rave. I look around and see people with their eyes closed. Some people are kissing and some and REALLY getting into one another. Oh goodness me. ‘Rise’ gently muscles in, “You are stronger then you think…” resonates around the room and when that happens “I’M TAKING OVER”, is like the alarm warning for the electronic instrumental rush which washes the crowd of inhibition. The crowd crushes itself to get closer to the stage. People are carried by the crowd and pass by overhead.
Of course, Kele dispels with the Bloc Party tunes too. In total about 4 Bloc Party songs were re-Kele’d for our ears. I unfortunately can’t differentiate between songs because it’s all mashed up and looooooooooooooooooooped to the max. All in all, a lot of sweaty young men and women getting lost in the music of Le Kele.
* Finally, CockInBullKid is a band which I feel warrants a mention. Their sound is reminiscent of The Gossip meets Friendly Fires…or eh, I dunno…? I’ll leave it for you to decide. The female singer is a very charismatic lady. Her voice is AMAZING. Their support for Kele was a genuine surprise to me. I have a good feeling about this band… I think the summer festivals will embrace them whole heartedly, and bestow love and affection to them, much like myself.
