A track from the recent Keeley album ‘Floating Above Everything Else’, this has been given the remix treatment by none other than The Boo Radleys’ Tim Brown. It’s a bit hard to know where to start with Keeley but if you read BM’s previous reviews of releases and gigs you might get some idea…
As are pretty much all Keeley’s songs, this is about Inge Maria Hauser, a young German backpacker murdered shortly after disembarking a ferry at Larne in 1988. It could be described as a slightly niche approach to take to a songwriting career but it so much is not – and the fact that the likes of Tim Brown (one of a number of well-known musicians who have endorsed Keeley in recent months) backs this up.
The remix adds some electronic percussion to some sections but also pares the track back to just vocals at points. Some squelchy synths have also been deployed as the song builds up and almost take the track over towards the end of the over-5mins long remix. The fact that the track can be tampered with to this extent simply shows how well-written the original version is, and Tim indulges himself in a massive synth wigout of immense proportions before the track fades into the ether.
