In these days of production line pop pixies and even folk-ish acts like Mumford and Sons packing out venues, has the time finally come for one of British folks brightest talents?
Unfortunately, probably not, although not for lack of talent or effort. Her sixth album (I think) is diverse, sometimes edgy, sometimes vulnerable, recorded with a good team of musicians and producers, but again unlikely to hit the big time, although I suspect she is pretty happy playing to her own fairly select audience.
Williams has a very distinctive and beautiful voice, a good way with words and deserves a bit more recognition, however I get the feeling she doesn’t really want to play the media tart so it’s unlikely that the masses will be exposed to her talents – still, perhaps an advert, possibly Hovis…?
