This is another beautiful and trenchant release from KJ, an absolute national treasure of Scottish music, now, in 2018.
Working with regular collaborator Marcus Mackay and the first track from a soon-to-be-released album this is another slightly dark and eldritch track, using her signature piano riffs to establish an atmosphere, and then there is that voice.
A bit wobbly, in a good way, wavering blissfully, about “the way your mouth covers my mouth”, – sensual, phew, with some drum samples to kick it off, into infinity and beyond (for that is how it sounds!).
There are few Scottish singers who have nailed emotion with originality since Liz Fraser…
And the coda is superb, tremolo and back to that single voice, as the piano still tremors, throughout it all, while the track backs down to an abrupt end – this could be the best 4m 11s that we hear all year.
