Mixing DIY laptop-pop with the kind of chav-tastic girliness that Lily Allen has owned the patent on up until now, Kate Nash has ‘indie hit’ written all over her cheeky smile. Unlike Keith Allen Jr, though, Nash has a genuinely poetic turn of phrase to her lyrics that rewards a second listen, and rather than coming away feeling slightly grubby and cheapened she leaves you uplifted and enlightened. Her Cockney twang won’t be to everyone’s taste, especially while the record industry is doing its best to eradicate the Scottish accent from the charts, but you shouldn’t hold that against her. A female Jamie T, and I mean that in a nice way.
