These days it’s difficult for folk bands such as Julia and the Doogans to gain any success with such strong competition in, for instance, the Glasgow music scene. But with one of the most angelic voices around and strong, beautiful lyrics, this debut EP from Julia and her band would move even the coldest of hearts. While ‘Borderline’ explores relationship problems, stand out tracks ‘Come Home’ and ‘New York City’ delve into the personal issue of loneliness. But no matter what emotions are being explored, they are always received so poetically. The music comes so naturally to them and this subtle effortlessness and beauty is what makes Julia and the Doogans so unique in the otherwise very competitive folk scene.
