Josiah Mortimer is a man on a mission with his latest release, ‘This Town’. The EP is a fine collection of modern acoustic and Josiah is donating all funds accrued to the FareShare hunger charity.
Spending a lot of his life in Cornwall on the south coast, Josiah has picked up influences from the region, and he does have a cornish sound which he leverages. Nevertheless, he does not sound like your typical cornish folk singer; instead, he brings a fresh angle to indie-folk with a unique position, although this is probably due to his most recent experiences living in the vibrant, Brixton.
The guitar’s rhythm keeps the energy flowing from the start, and it never becomes monotonous with it regularly changing. It makes sense why Josiah has spent a lot of time perfecting his guitar arrangement given that it is the focal point in the instrumental. The warmth also offers a new flavour to the mix, adding even more emotion to the vocal.
‘This Town’ oozes passion. Although it is an acoustic track, it still arrives with intensity and Josiah proves that not all the guns need to be blazing to create a nail-biting track. Also, it reflects the turmoil of recent years, and although there is an end in sight, potentially with the vaccine, this track keeps us pushing towards better days. Additionally, Josiah uses his platform for good, and it is stimulating; he is not after recognition either, diverting the attention straight to modern times’ heroes. It is modest of up and coming Josiah, and it makes him stand out so profoundly.
