Occasionally, it appears my opinion matters so much that new tracks and albums make their way to my inbox. It’s forever confusing, but it can lead to some lovely surprises.
‘An Elegant Affair’ is one of those surprises. Coming from Jordan Berry, a Glasgow transplant from New Zealand, it’s his studio debut after recording in bedrooms for years.
A smooth, chilled out, indie number that’s for fans of Razorlight, The Kooks, and The Coral. Acoustic guitar bolstered with a crunchy electric that doesn’t overplay or outstay its welcome, jazzy drums, and discreet bass – this track barely edges onto the “rock” spectrum but stays in its cosy, acoustic house where it serves only to make you feel at home too.
It’s one of those tracks where you don’t really pay attention to the lyrics, but let them just form part of the instrumentation and wash over you.
No one’s going to be dancing to this subdued track, but there’s nothing wrong with just relaxing and bobbing along to it.
