Opener ‘Nancy’ is a quiet number, featuring some excellent cymbal work that reinforces the intimate, in your face, almost confrontational guitar work. This soon transforms into a more sinister sound, as the cymbals slice through the music thicker and faster, effects twist the vocals that start to scream and shout and everything goes faster and faster and continues to rise and rise – before it’s gone.
‘In My Laboratory’ comes across like a playful children’s TV theme. The drums play a fantastic little beat that everything else is built around, as the rest of the band add layer upon layer to it, including spindly guitar lines and deranged vocals, before thick, choir backing vocals bring us back to some sort of normality. We then return to the mayhem which builds to a climax before the choir say amen, and lay the song to rest.
