Being on the downtown NYC party scene since before you were born, James Murphy is one of The Men to get your party started [and did I mention he is the leader of that dance rock crossover beast LCD Soundsystem?]. Hence, whenever he beams into Glasgow, punters generally get excited.
Focusing on laying out party tunes like ‘Gotta Be Big’, ‘You Make Me Feel’ and ‘House of Jealous Lovers’, there was lots to get excited about – even the stewards were bouncing about at this one. Bongo links and funky brass sections guaranteed there were more smiles than pouts in Sub Club’s basement as coolness was laid aside and everyone jumped into the fun(k). Imagine a 70’s disco minus the bad flares and fluffy hair; rammed through the Optimo machine, and spat out at the end all futuristic and groovey.
It was a night for spilling drink on friends, making amends, and dancing past the party’s end. Finishing up on a downtempo groove you’d expect to find in a Tarantino film, it doesn’t matter when you were born, or if you lived in downtown NYC, or anything like that; all that mattered tonight was getting down to some deliciously warped funk.
