Glasgow based band It Girl certainly have the vibe of post-punk about them. The deep and troubled vocals hang heavy over the tracks, but to its success more than failure, making their sound that little bit more intense.
You can’t help but take note of their track ‘Victim to the Clock’; the introduction alone is polished and sophisticated. Despite dragging a little heavy, the vocals come across as strangely familiar, somewhat like that of the Kaiser Chiefs but without the spunk and commitment. The track is an interesting one with thought-provoking lyrics as it’s backbone but it could maybe do with being sped up a few beats to really bring it to life.
A welcome burst of sound comes in It Girl’s final track ‘Followed and Found’, which helps drive the record into the music scene as it stands today. Unfortunately it then slacks towards the end, sliding back into the same speed trap. It makes you want to go and metaphorically give the track a boot to bring it up to speed.
Overall however, the band have homed their style down to a tee, even if it isn’t quite what you would expect from emerging bands in today’s scene.
