Bill Drummond, once of the KLF and equally famously, burner of a million pounds, has launched a scheme seen by many as bizarre as the band’s collabration with TammyWynette. No Music Day is on 21st November and as its name suggests, aims to cancel all musical play, from radio and TV, to jingles, to whistling milkmen.
Drummond states the reason for the date as being the fact it precedes St Cecilia’s day (patron saint of music), while the reason for the No Music aspect is to encourage people to think about what they listen to rather than blindly absorbing music in all its forms in the consumer world which it exists in.
BBC Radio Scotland and Resonance FM have already joined in with the policy, and the Mersey Tunnel is also earmarked for silence , at least of the musical variety.
