Although husband and wife duo Colin Newman and Malka Spiegel’s last release under this name was in 1998, the two haven’t been idle.
Working along with Spigel’s Minimal Compact in Githead, the two have pursued solo projects. But it’s Newman who will be best known, as a member of legendary and reborn post-punk act Wire.
The nine tracks here are far-removed from their other acts however – perhaps providing a break from more song-based work with a set of lovely, chilled pieces.
And while opener ‘Always The Sea’ has a Wire-like rhythmic pattern, in the main it’s a very ambient set, closer to Tangerine Dream or Eno, with only occasional busts of rhythm or hook. One for the chillout room perhaps…
