Kompromat (Atlantic Curve)

This Leeds combo have not released anything for a few years, and yet they are now back…

Nine tracks of what could be described as classy indiepop, it comes with with some eccentric twists…

The first track ‘A Steady Hand’ references electronica, early Human League maybe, with some amount of interesting verbiage, i.e. very interesting lyrics… intoned in a way that maybe recalls Nick Cave wrestling with Harry Hill, or something…

There are also nods to shoegaze, goth and pure pop along the way – without knowing anything much about them, BM is highly impressed…

The rest of the album follows in the same way, with some excellent tracks such as ‘Desire Is A Mess’, actually just listening to that first track again and my god it is good…

Let us just say that on the strength of this, BM has purchased the album (on CD) which these days is probably the ultimate accolade, actually paying for something – and looking forward to blasting this on the move…
