This was a free gig promo for the 3rd album from Honeyblood, aka Stina Tweedale, and it was quite a special affair. Playing without a full band, she enlisted three other very talented female singer-songwriters to sing backing vocals. We got Carla J. Easton, Siobhan Black and Megan Airlie all seated while Steena did the business on her electric guitar in front of a moderate but rapt crowd.
We got a selection of songs from the new record, ‘The Third Degree’ new single being the most catchy and distinctive. Older cuts from the amazing ‘Babes Never Die’ were also played, with the collective choir giving some subtle but effective backing vocals.
This looks like being a big year for Steena, with a full-band tour now in progress and a big date lined up at the QMU in September.
BM has been listening to ‘In Plain Sight’ a lot and can only say that some of the songs are quite incredible, the Congleton production really fleshing out Steena’s songs and BM personally cannot wait for the sonic chaos that the full band will no doubt wreak on the QMU.
