This week we’re recommending Hey You Get Off My Pavement! – the all-day festival which takes place at Glasgow’s Mono bar/cafe/record shop. Running on August 5th from 12.30pm – 10.30 pm, last year saw landmark performances from Emma Pollock, The Royal We and a late-in-the-day acoustic show from Arab Strap as well as a show-stopping appearance from Herman Dune. The rain even (mostly) stayed off (see links) and a wide range of vegan fare including way too much wheat beer was consumed.
This year, more acts and a larger capacity are promised and the indoor of Mono including the legendary Monorail record shop will be open all day.
And this year King’s Court will again resonate to the sounds of some of the top talents to be found in Scotland and beyond.
The Aliens headline and the psychedelic poppers – 2 parts Beta Band to one Lone Pigeon – will be an upliftingly low-fi end to the day’s events as the glaur looms.
Also on the bill: The Twilight Sad, FatCat records signings taking press and public by storm both here and in the USA.
And, Errors, the Rock Action act who were such a hit at SXSW. Errors’ sometime labelmates and London noiseniks Part Chimp will provide a loud interlude mid-bill-contrasting The One Ensemble.
Headed by Daniel Padden, previously of underground heroes Volcano The Bear, they make experimental folk hopefully perfect for the sunny Glasgow weather (TBC). And Dananananaykroyd, one of Scotland’s top live acts, a lively contrast to opener John B Mckenna, a singer-songwriter hand-picked to open by the HYGOMP mainmen.
