A cult outfit in the early 2000-teens, (allegedly, you never know with Lost Map…), Herbert Powell (nope, BM neither!) (Homer Simpson’s half-brother? – Ed) were playing live on the circuit but never released anything, until now… Lost Map have taken the plunge to release this track many years after the band stopped…
Formed somewhere in the West of Scotland nearly a decade ago by Kieran Thomas (vocals, bass), ‘Romeo’ Taylor Stewart (drums), Kay Logan (guitar) and Billy Gaughan (guitar). All have gone on to do other things (including Rapid Tan, Anxiety, Savage Mansion and Comfort), but this is apparently a relic from their past.
It’s very interesting indeed – in over around 3 and a half minutes they cover space-rock, psychedelia pop and god knows what all else.
Starting with a Beta Band-esque groove and whispered vocals, the track immediately focuses into a Krautrock-type motornik sprawl of riffs and big bad drums, then collapses into a serious of false stops and starts – shades of The Phantom Band as well. There’s then a lengthy pause after around two minutes, before they erupt in an almighty wigout for the rest of the track.
Well worth a listen!
