Belgium as a country brings certain images to your head.
Mainly waffles and chocolate I’d guess. For the sporting amongst you, maybe their fast-rising football team. Or even, for alcohol fans, their beer.
Nowadays, maybe they will be known for their punchy indie bands in the form of Great Mountain Fire. After growing up together listening to the likes of Pink Floyd and The Police, the five-piece formed the band at the tender age of 11.
The track arrives on British shores from the band’s 2011 debut album Canopy, and is the first release for the band in this country. However, after seeing fellow Belgian acts like Soulwax reach success in the Britain, Great Mountain Road look set to follow in their footsteps.
‘Crooked Head’ offers thundering drums mixed with an infectious guitar line. The song trundles along gleefully, having the indie rock swagger reminiscent of Vampire Weekend’s debut album.
The song leans towards folk rock, without following into the trap of sounding like Mumford and Sons. Great Mountain Road seems to see the trap, and dance round it jointly while playing hoisting there instruments high in the air.
Belgium now has a Great Mountain Road to add to their landmarks.
