Look no further – you’ve found an Oxfordshire band worth listening to.
‘Heartbeats’ from Go On Do It Jump simply puts an involuntary smile on your face. It may be predictably named but there is something unique about the band’s sound that stops all predictability right there. Thompson’s lead vocals are crisp and flawlessly harmonised with the backing vocals to produce a sound only capable of a band who can work well in sync.
Highlight of their EP ‘Ceasefire’ is beautifully written. The lyrics “your apology’s only ceremony… there’s no saving you, there’s no saving you at all” are true-to-life in a blunt but warming way; “Maybe one day we’ll find out, which one of us let the side down / It’s a mess I confess.”
Additionally, the controlled punch of drums at the chorus brings about a surge of power reminiscent of only the best rock ballads.
There is something curious about Go On Do It Jump, something slightly mysterious that emerges from the polished sound they produce. The result? Chilled out tunes without a single scuffed edge in earshot; the sign of the perfectionism. They have as much depth as you’d expect from an EP called ‘Grace, Poise, Clarity’, which doesn’t go against the Oxfordshire boys as their music transgresses from intense and mature, to smooth and relaxed completely effortlessly.
While not as spontaneous or risky as their name suggests, they more than make up for it in their passion and energy that help seal their elements of sound together seamlessly.
Grace, Poise, Clarity will be out in early 2013 – taken from it, ‘Heartbeats’
