This is the perfect release for this time of year. While some of their contemporaries have fallen into the trap of irrelevance, or of mistakenly trying to repeat past glories, Deep Dish have simply continued to plough their own furrow. This means there are plenty of real, deep dub sounds on display here. It is the kind of set which hooks you in gently so that you won’t notice your heart rate steadily and slowly starting to increase as it picks up pace.
Rather than hit you right in the face, the rhythms here are beautifully modulated, making for a very full sound that grows and deepens as the set goes on. Wailing, soulful vocals get easily punctuated by strident snare drums and smoothly oiled by the overall groove. It’s the kind of set you can have on all day in the background and it will come in every so often and remind you it’s there, or, you could be in a club all night and just get sucked into it, forget where you are and dance the night away. Perfect summer music, in other words.
