No disrespect to Gigantic Leaves’ vocalist Gavin Keogh, but his vocals are not always the most tuneful. The funny thing is, they’re perfectly suited to the Edinburgh band’s lackadaisical brand of indie rock and wash over you in a rather pleasant, blurry kind of way.
‘Dying In Your Car’ is a well-crafted tune, and it’s fair to say Gigantic Leaves would fit rather nicely on Sub Pop’s roster. There’s an almost nostalgic feel to the music, in thrall as it is to the early nineties Seattle scene.
The crunchy, over-driven pop of ‘If You Want To’ features a nice guitar solo (remember those?) and ‘Spirits Of The Evening’ is a majestic way to close the EP.
If you enjoy a lo-fi vibe and have a soft spot for bands like Dinosaur Jnr and The Lemonheads then Gigantic Leaves are well worth checking out.
@isthismusic Yay! Thank you!
