Former Long Fin Killie leader Luke Sutherland, now award-nominated novelist, will have his first stage play premiered at the Edinburgh festival. Venus As A Boy, his third book, has been adapted for the stage by the National Theatre of Scotland. The production has already toured the north of Scotland (Sutherland’s childhood home), taking in Hoy, Kirkwall, Stromness and Ullapool, but will gain a rather higher profile in its 3-week Fringe stint which precedes its performance at London’s Soho Theatre in September.
Despite 3 albums with the seminal Scots band and several more under various guises including Bows, Sutherland has been seldom seen in any musical capacity of late (a guest spot with Mogwai perhaps his last onstage appearance). However, he will, however, be performing live as part of the book adaptation.
