When Frightened Rabbit released their debut Sing The Greys last year, they became part of the new wave of Scottish rock along with The Twilight Sad, Glasvegas, My Latest Novel and Broken Records making this country an exciting place, with none of these bands following any current trends, bonded by their own originality.Frightened Rabbit’s follow up has the bonus of an added member. The result? Louder, more depth, and at times more commercial too. Yet fourth member or not, it is founding member Scott Rabbit’s delicate Scots accent that is the centre of the record. The Dylan-esque ‘Old Old Fashioned’ shows the kind of romantic he is as he croons “Let’s get old fashioned, back to how things used to be”.
Yes, this is a man who believes in love and his band’s mix of traditional Scottish folk and epic rock soundscapes helps make this an up-lifting, life affirming album that should establish Frightened Rabbit as a force to be reckoned with.
