Quite how duties were split on this 10 track collaboration is unclear, but ‘Come and Stay With Me’, for one, is driven by the sparkling pop nous of Teenage Fanclub.
That’s unsurprising given Francis Macdonald’s position in that seminal indie act. ‘Paul In Vauxhall’ is a brass-infused swooning tune while ‘Mike Love Fan Club’ is a Beach Boys tribute in both name and feel.
Contrasting considerably are the contributions from artist Harry Pye who tells us some tales from his life with piano backing (Macdonald’s classical side – he is an acclaimed composer) as Pye relates how he met Lucian Freud on ‘I Made Him Smile’.
However, it’s opener ‘Feel Like A Record That’s Scratched’ that takes the prize here – pure catchy power-pop that’s a work of art.
