For any Wild Beasts fans out there, wondering where the the hell the next album is, I’ve got news for you. They’ve changed their name to Fossa.
They kind of grow out of Wild Beasts mode and start to grow their own voice. It’s a fragile thing at first, but then, over the course of the EP, it starts to grow more and more supple.
They love their melodies, too. They know where to roll with the melody and when to rein themselves in. This is because, despite their protestations to the contrary, there is only slight experimentation on display here. A beat here, a keyboard passage there. And Louis Shadwick’s beautiful voice.
They are still refining them, but they have grabbed them with both musical hands and positively seethe with excitement. The beats bubble under at all times. Beats are best, Fossa have realised, when they are struggling to get out and get their voice heard.
They also, if the joyously ravaged guitars are anything to go by, have at least one copy of The Jesus And Mary Chain’s Honeys Dead album between them.
