Thirty years down the line and FiniTribe remain as fresh and as invigorating as possible, which is no mean feat when you consider the song that you are reviewing was first released back in 1991. I may have socks that are as old as this song, but they certainly don’t come across as being as fresh or as relevant as this release.
The Scott Fraser 2015 Reshuffle is a barnstorming version of the original track and then the Timothy J Fairplay Remix manages to take things even higher. This means that there is no real let-up across the two tracks, which was one of the many attractions of the recent Record Store Day event. It’s difficult to provide remixes for a track that has so much history, including a range of excellent remixes, including a stellar Andy Weatherall showing. The reminder of the initial release date will do little to cheer up anyone suffering with the onset of aging but give yourself a couple of minutes in the company of these remixes and you’ll be planning your own return to the dance floor.
It looks like being a big summer for the act, hitting the road and playing a big Edinburgh set alongside Young Fathers and the aforementioned Mr Weatherall. With hopes for a new album before the end of 2015, the next thirty years of FiniTribe could be set for an exciting start.
