There is a good turn-out early doors for this evening’s opening act Hagana.
From Edinburgh, their rock is heavy but no stranger to a good tune. Singer Leo Fox gives a particularly impassioned performance, wringing every last bit of sound from his guitar. They look like they are having a great time, with highlights including ‘She Said’ and ‘Connect 4’. It’s an excellent start to the night.

Next up are Vasquez, again from Edinburgh and named after Private Vasquez from Aliens. Purely an instrumental concern, multiple strands of rhythm and melody are layered in complex webs, powered by drummer Jon Adam and bassist Sean Quinn. Ciaran Mckenna’s guitar runs wild over the top with an amazing display of technique and ability. The band describe their sound as action-packed and, like the film that features their namesake, there’s never a dull moment.

The Electric Circus is buzzing as Dundee’s Fat Goth take to the stage. Touring to launch their fantastic second album ‘Stud’, they open with an ominous ‘I Am Leg End’ before battering into ‘Surf’s Down’. This is lean, fat free fare (save the name), a taut performance from a trio that have obviously put the work in. Singer/guitarist Fraser Stewart barks his vocals like a mad man while riffing over an insanely good rhythm section of Kevin Black on bass and Mark Keiller on drums. They never let the pace slip and there are many highlights, most notably singles ‘Debbie’s Dirty Harry’ and ‘Creepy Lounge’. The last notes of set closer ‘One Night In Kevin’ from EP ‘Dolphins’ are met with shouts of “one more tune”, which the band, a little taken aback by the audience’s enthusiasm, oblige.
