Not a lot of advance publicity for the return of Factory Floor, don’t think they had played a Glasgow gig for some time, maybe since BM last saw them at SWG3 back in (checks notes….2017, or even before that).
At that point BM seems to recall that they were performing as a two piece, however tonight Gabe (electronics, vocals) and Nic (drums) are joined by Joe (percussion), giving them extra firepower.
BM had not darkened the doors of the Sub Club in many a long year and has no personal recollection of any live gigs witnessed there (they do occur, just very infrequently). The PA system was pretty loud for the size of the venue and when the band got started the sound was pounding.
The band appeared around 8.45pm and for the next hour we got an object lesson in seriously hard techno, with added disembodied vocals, effects and a real percussive battering of the senses. Having honed their live act over a good few years now, they knew exactly what to do to get even this mid-evening school-night crowd going, with barely a break between tracks. There were probably six or seven numbers in all, including recent track ‘Between You’ and some stuff dating back to the ’25 25′ LP.
There was some acknowledgement from Gabe of the audience’s enthusiasm but barely much more than a “thank you” before it was all over. Hopefully this is a precursor to more Scottish dates because at their best, the alchemy of New Order-ish electro coupled with more experimental tropes channelling Cabaret Voltaire, Underworld and their own idiosyncratic stage set-up is hard to beat.
