It’s appropriate that I get to hear this album at this time in the year, as it is so damned stormy.
Different Sun is a pure feast of fuzz and doom, as though someone’s taken the DNA of My Bloody Valentine and Nightwish, shoved them in a blender and turned the speed up to full. For the first five minutes, you just think, consequence be damned, I’ll surf this and enjoy the ride. You want to be right out front, high on this sheer elixir of life and rage. This record was entirely written, produced, recorded and mixed by Electric Eye themselves. They were free from outside influences but very much tuned into their inner demons. From modest beginnings, a world was thus created. It may well be a different sun, but the mood swings are still the same. And for such small blessings, we should be truly thankful.
