Glasgow band Dutch Wine’s fourth single sees them develop their multi-layered guitar sound further with this melancholy but riff-laden effort.
Luc Grindle (drums/vocals), Calvin Smith (lead vocals/bass) and Christopher Devine (guitar/vocals) put their own slant on the Scottish indie sound, with shades of Franz and WWJP perhaps, however this also harks back to 80s bands such as The Chameleons and the vocals and harmonies have a hint of Postcard as well.
The lyrics are downbeat and nostalgic even, giving the track an atmosphere of slight foreboding, not easy to do in a short single so fair play to them…
The instrumental break at the end fairly sizzles and the bass is pure funk at times – very promising indeed!
