Psssst… here’s an absolute belter of a gig for the pop punkers out there…
Friends let friends know about great shows and here’s one I couldn’t let slip by. Pennsylvania quartet Don’t Panic are coming over for a jaunt and they’re bringing Thomas Ian Nicholas (if the name doesn’t ring a bell… stick with me).
This is a great chance to jump on the Don’t Panic bandwagon before it leaves the station. Think Lagwagon with Gin Blossoms rounding the jagged edges off. If you’re more into the darker side of proceedings, check out the track ‘Numb’ that channels Alkaline Trio in a big way. They came over early last year with The Dollyrots so that band wagon is getting busier quick. You’ll definitely want a seat on this bus if you’re a fan of early millennium pop punk circa the first American Pie movie.
Speaking of which…
The second act headlining this show is none other than the dude who played Kevin in the American Pie movies. I was surprised too! But when he’s not a fully grown man fumbling through the minefield of teenage romance, he’s performing some pretty catchy pop-rock numbers. Not quite as punky as Don’t Panic, but certainly has a lot of the same DNA as our favourite bands from the fresh, indie punk from his soundtracks.
The support comes from Welsh pop-punkers Who Saves the Hero? – who leans more into the modern side of influences, but that gives you something to use to convince the younger kids to come dance with us.
Taking place in King Tuts, this is going to be a great little intimate night out with a touch of nostalgia, a childhood legend, and the chance to have a little dance… and it’s not even a school night!
