When you get described as ‘baroque pop’ then there’s just one thing for it.
Employ a chamber orchestra for your next release. So Dominic Harris, veteran of Edinburgh’s scene, has joined forces with McFall’s Chamber, virtuoso classical musicians for hire, alongside indie icons Aberfeldy.
A curious work that, well, works, Harris’s elaborate enunciations and literary flounces work perfectly with his usual indie pop setup.
However, they don’t stray too far from accessibility – ‘Song For The Hard of Hearing’ fairly rocks and you can imagine The Smiths kicking themselves for not having employed a string section.
It’s just one highlight in a set that’s odd, but oddly compelling.
