Scottish duo Distant Images have a new track out (as of 15th March) and it’s an electropop belter.
A reflective mid-paced stealth bomb, it pairs frontwoman Jilly’s distinctive (with some treatments) vocals with glacial synths and an increasingly pounding backbeat. Over the four minutes it builds from something fairly minimal and low-key into a many-layered beast, with some real atmospherics and punch along the way. Introspective lyrics (“I’m overthinking…”) give the track a slightly melancholic tinge, combined with some euphoric musical moments.
There’s definitely a touch of Depeche Mode, Chvrches and ’80s electro in there – in a good way, and BM hopes that Distant Images are able to do some more extensive live shows to promote their music in 2024.
