Debut single from duo Deux Furieuses ‘Can We Talk About This?’ starts out all swampy drums and voodoo percussion. The presence of PJ Harvey drummer Rob Ellis behind the mixing desk will give you some idea of the vague country we’re in here.
Urgent staccato guitar and vocals lead you to the huge, soaring and, frankly, exhilarating chorus. Sterling stuff rocking like most folk don’t.
Apparently ‘Can We Talk About This?’ were the last words of Dutch director Theo Van Gogh before he was gunned on the street by Islamic extremists. I have no idea how that relates to this track. Or what it’s all about. But, blimey, it’s angry. And, compelling.
